Week 4 Highlights — Gilmer and GP North Shore Get Big Wins

Games of the week:
Gilmer 43, Daingerfield 20
It was a battle between two of the top high school football teams in the state. #1 2A Daingerfield took on #2 3A Gilmer. The Gilmer Buckeyes continued their impressive season with a 43-20 win over the Tigers from Daingerfield. Gilmer’s offensive showed great balance with 216 yards in the air and 213 yards on the ground. Buckeye quarterback Darian Godfrey (24-for-32 216 yards, 2 touchdowns, 1 Int.) had a great game. The Buckeyes extended their 22-6 halftime lead to 36-6 in the 3rd to put the game out of reach.
Galena Park North Shore 28, Southlake Carroll 15
#18 5A Galena Park North Shore showed that they were a championship contender with a convincing 29-14 victory over #2 5A Southlake Carroll. North Shore led 22-15 in the 4th quarter before they stopped the Dragons on downs at their 23 with 5:19 remaining. Southlake got the ball back with 1:25 left but their first pass attempt was intercepted and North Shore scored on a long run to make the final score 28-15. North Shore Running Back Tim Cornett finished the night with 24 carries and 167 yards. Last week, he had a 352-yard performance against La Marque.
Highlights:
Another week, another shutout for #4 1A Goldthwaite. A 41-0 win over #146 2A Merkel was Goldthwaite’s third shutout of the season. The Eagles have only given up 13 points in five games

#3 4A Austin Lake Travis quarterback Michael Brewer had another huge game, completing 23 of 28 passes for 386 yards and five touchdowns in their 56-31 victory over #48 4A Killeen. Running Back Andy Erickson also had a great game Catching 6 passes for 189 yards and 4 TDs and scoring a rushing TD

#36 5A Tyler John Tyler led 56-0 at halftime and cruised to a 70-6 victory over #174 5A Lewisville
.
#7 3A Rockdale got only their 17th victory in 55 meetings against #35 3A Cameron Yoe with a 41-21 victory
.
#31 5A Mission Sharyland’s Quarterback Scott Meyer ran for 278 yards and five TDs in a 52-17 win over #177 5A McAllen Rowe
.
#118 4A Kilgore running back LaDarius Anthony ran for 359 yards and 5 touchdowns in Kilgore’s 38-24 win over #105 3A Palestine to set a school record.

#7 2A Newton running backs Jeremy Jackson and Kelvin Bennett both rushed for over 200 yards in a 62-40 win over #115 3A Orangefield. Jackson ran 15 times for 237 yards and four TDs and Bennett ran 17 times for 287 yards and three TDs, also returning a kick for a touchdown. Orangefield jumped out to an early 17-0 lead before Newton game storming back

#24 1A Shiner beat #126 3A Palacios 43-0. Palacious enrollment is 443 while Shiners is 188

#52 4A Edcouch-Elsa lost a district game for the first first time in over five years. Their 39 game district winning streak came to an end with a 11-8 loss to #51 4A Weslaco East. Weslaco East had to come up with a goal line stand to earn the victory. They stopped Edcouch-Elsa twice inside the 1-yard line, in the final minute of the game to preserve the victory.

Dallas ISD gets another black eye as the game between Dallas Kimball and Dallas Smith ended in the 3rd quarter because of a brawl where the sidelines and stands emptied.

#19 3A Mexia’s great season took a wrong turn. They had built a 27-7 lead with 6:46 remaining in the game against #48 3A West. The missed extra point and two recovered onside kicks which turned into 21 West points in 6:14 gave West an unbelievable 28-27 victory

#204 5A Spring DeKaney’s Sophomore Running Back Trey Williams ran for 375 yards on 31 carries with four TDs and returned a kickoff for 41 yards in a big 47-39 upset of #46 5A Spring Westfield
.
#116 3A Perryton with an enrollment of 622 students was able to defeat #2 1A Canadian 198 students 51-35.

#74 4A Port Neches-Groves Running Back Caleb Harmon ran for 307 yards during their 27-20 victory over #198 4A Little Cypress-Mauriceville

#52 1A Joaquin did not attempt a single pass during their 30-6 win over #15 1A Mount Enterprise

#154 3A Shepherd Quarterback Alex Jones passed for 207 yards and a TD and ran 11 times for 159 yards and three TDs in a 57-0 shutout of #169 3A Tarkington

#26 4A Birdville Quarterback Josh Dorman passed for 553 yards and seven touchdowns in a 63-28 victory against #199 4A Azle. He now has 1,608 passing yards in the first 4 games of the season.
